bonnie prince billy aka will oldham veröffentlicht mit �best troubador� eine hommage an einen seiner ewigen helden, country- und folk-ikone merle haggard. das werk von haggard begleitet bonnie prince billy nun schon seit mindestens 25 jahren. so coverte er nicht nur bei seinem ersten öffentlichen auftritt einen haggard-song. auch in den folgenden jahre seiner karriere bezog sich oldham immer wieder auf das werk und wirken haggards. das vorhaben, das nun im mai erscheinende album aufzunehmen, begleitete oldham schon eine ganze weile. das ziel war es, an der uralten tradition teilzuhaben, folk-songs an die nächste generation weiterzutragen. fast legte oldham das projekt auf eis, als er im april 2016 vom tod merle haggards erfuhr. statt in einem studio in nashville aufzunehmen, zogen sich oldham und seine mitmusiker zugunsten einer familiären aufnahme-atmosphäre in ein heimstudio zurück. so wurde dem andenken haggards werk durch besondere wärme und intimität würdevoller tribut gezollt.

for the labels ninth release, deep a & biris black crow records revisits one that helped establish the labels direction back in the imprints first year. bcr003, insular realms by fellow israeli producer hakimonu, was praised by many including resident advisor, who said the ep proved his off-kilter take on techno and house is as vibrant and inviting as ever. now in 2017, deepa & biri have invited mind against, luigi tozzi and echologist (aka dub techno veteran brendon moeller) to all rework the original version of insular realms for 2017. first up are life & death�s mind against, with one of the fognini brothers most direct techno productions yet, with a mid-track moment of calm before the intensity resumes. luigi tozzi, the rome-based producer who has had previous outings on dynamic reflection and dino sabatinis outis music, contributes the second remix. taking the lead from the originals more ethereal moments, his version is dreamy & almost wistful as it propels along its shaking rhythm. the b-side offers two takes from brendon moeller in his echologist guise, with a dub mix that twists the original into an acid-inflected track that slowly ratchets up the tension over its seven minutes, while the reshape breaks things down into a churning rhythm peppered with flashes f off kilter sonic details.

the ep is opened by detached with it�s dominating, repeating tom/percussive low-end sound. the frequential spectrum is filled up by other percussive elements and reverb-filled effects, which give the track a spacious feel. oxidian starts out in your face with it�s droning and repetitive synth. the track evolves into an abstract apogee with intense synthesis before it breaks down again, allowing for a smooth mix to be made. sphere closes down this 3-track ep on the b-side and does so with lots of fast changing hi-hat and ride patterns and one sharp sounding synthesizer, which makes it a perfect b-side closing track. once again a great showcase of sustainable modern day electronic music by invite�s choice!

this 4-tracker from spanish affkt might quite simply be his best release to date. i have always admired his different and quirky productions and as the followers will know we have released tracks with affkt before.this time me and marc (aka affkt) went deep into a&r ing the release to make sure all tracks reached their full potential. tracks have been added and removed from the release over time. the tracks have been re-arranged, adjusted, revisited over a period of 9 months time (yes thats how much time we spent carefully putting this release together and making sure it was perfect). i am really proud of what marc acomplished with this release on noir music. all 4 tracks work really well in the clubs and they each have a very strong affkt signature which i wont bother describing in detail by words but rather have you listen to these amazing squared pieces.

nyc s legendary west end record label has contributed a fair few classics to the disco cannon and continues to influence dance music today with it s forward looking releases. when you touch me is no exception, recorded and released in the golden year of 1979 and featuring the breathy, sensual vocals of a young tanaa gardner who had previously worked as a backing vocalist for numerous other projects until the label released her (other) stone cold solo classic work that body the same year on 12-. both cuts featured on her self titled debut lp and boasted the combined production and studio talents of kenton nix, bob blank and of course - larry levan. now, that s a serious line-up to have behind the boards (& in the clubs!) and of course when you touch me was a classic with it s slow, elongated intro that calls to mind a sleazier version of donna summer s love hangover before launching into a full-on disco assault that you won t forget in a hurry! yes, the record surprises you, tanaa leads us into a false sense of a slow jam and then - boom - we re off! backed with the incredible instrumental version the 12- is repressed here in it s original 1979 glory, an essential classic that has stood the test of time for the last 30+ years & is now available again, remastered & repressed for 2017 in conjunction with west end records, nyc.

french producer and dj john jastszebski has been involved in the french and global underground house and techno scene for over a decade now, releasing on imprints such as d�julz� bass culture, phil weeks� robsoul, syncrophone recordings and of course phonogramme where he returns to here. the original mix of lead track �season� takes the lead via infectious stab sequences, snaking subs and raw organic percussion before kai alce�s �restructure� of �season� follows and tips the focus over to airy chords, jazz-tinged lead melodies and a bumpy rhythmic swing. illusion� follows and sees jastszebski focus on a more stripped-back aesthetic with rolling drums, dusty string samples and warm rhodes driving the composition. �gracelend� then closes the package with smooth, unfolding pad melodies, crunch drum sounds and a murky, hypnotic feel.

after the successful calypso roses far from home album, because music will release a two remixes ep for the record store day. those remixes are made by the south african mo laudi. his work is considered to be in the vein of jamie xx�s music. forget the thorns, because she has them, and without delay pick this (calypso) rose who, at 76 years old, looks fresher than ever. calypso rose was always a fighter and had to overcome hostility from her father, a baptist preacher thoroughly opposed to her pursuing a musical career. and she was sexually abused as a teenager, as she bravely confessed in calypso rose, lioness of the jungle, the 2009 documentary about her. a tireless worker, she composed almost 800 songs, starting at age 13, and spent 17 years singing on cruise ships for the new york-based company celebration at sea, before playing on the legendary stages of the apollo and madison square garden with two of the greatest calypsonians, lord kitchener and mighty sparrow. calypso rose is a fighter indeed: you dont survive cancer and two heart attacks without a solid dose of grinta.

repress , from moods & grooves to sistrum, brian harden has served up more than enough soulful, synth-led house and techno in his time. it s just the kind of style that suits the mood on d3, and so the label has picked up his essential -chicago to detroit- jam and called upon a fine selection of remixers to rework the track. first up is byron the aquarius, who drops some expressive broken beat drums into the mix to spar with the illustrious melodic tones to great effect. meanwhile the label boss brian gets busy with a classic, straight-up adaptation on his -chicago sur seine mix- before patrice scott opts for an energised variation with poignant new rhodes-esque keys floating on top.

swiss duo me & her join the hottrax roster with a robust release featuring british duo dense & pika and detroit�s dj bone on remix duties. with recent appearances on deeperfect, natura viva and clarisse records, the rising duo has quickly cemented a reputation as ones to watch since making their production debut back in 2014. joining them on the release is dense & pika, who have been taking the world by storm whilst releasing on leading labels such as adam beyer�s drumcode, scuba�s hotflush, not to mention renowned uk imprint hypercolour. meanwhile, dj bone needs little introduction having paved the way for quality techno for over two decades including running his renowned subject detroit imprint. sturdy kicks and intricate effects drive �wild rage� forward before introducing metallic snares and animated melodies. on the other hand, �thunderstruck� is a dusky production composed of heady stabs and echoing elements that together generate a compelling groove. dense & pika�s shuffling remix of �wild rage� shines a spotlight on a tantalizing synth as eerie nuances operate throughout, before dj bone concludes the package with a trippy and percussive reinterpretation of his own.

fleeting wax hits its third release with this bout of sinister, sleek disco for the darker dancefloor that finds bucharest-based duo valeriu borcos and eduard gabia getting remixed from a strong cast of characters. the ever prolific khidja is up first, turning -choose your colour gypsy dark- into a brooding, almost-rocking affair with an irresistible noirish tint to it. the label heads then get busy with a version that ups the arpeggios in a nod to italo amidst plenty of dubby fx, before mehmet aslan stretches out across the b-side with a more yearning version that lets a little light in on the situation. it s a diverse, potent bag of versions that do credit to the original while saying something new as well.

the latest release from serbia�s soul print recordings brings together the two l�s, leonid and laak. up first is leonid on the a side with two tracks urania 1 and 2, possibly named after the muse of astronomy, which makes sense, as both tracks have a cosmic feel about them. urania 1 starts off with a nice string sound that permeates the space before the drums start to really take effect half way through. urania 2 has a more house feel about it, with the acid bass line sitting nicely along the deep pads. over to the b side and laak takes control. delving into late night territory with haunting layered leads & pads these tracks are typical quality by laak. featuring label artwork once again by fellow serb, bratislav milenkovic and pressed on a beautiful sky blue, yesterday for tomorrow is a thing of aural and visual beauty.
